I have the honor to acknowledge

the receipt of your letter of this date (29) enclosing a copy of a Despatch

of the 25th Instant from His Excellency the Governor to the Right Honorable Earl Grey, for the information of Major

General Staveley, and requesting any remarks or suggestions that the Major

General might consider necessary with regard to the proposed reductions to

make with.

I am now desired to transmit

to you for His Excellency the Governor, a Memorandum from the Major-General on

the subject.
