General Staveley to acknowledge the receipt of your letter

the
26th Inst. (C.0.281) transmitting
a copy of a letter (Military. No. 3) dated 4th October 1848. from Right Honorable Earl Grey, and I am desired to state for
the information
of His Excellency the Governor that the Major General
considers that the Military forces
in their
present establishment,
cannot be Redund
having due
regard
to the safety of
the Colony.
