to the conclusion that it is

necessary

to have here 2 Service Companies of an European Regiment complete strength, and this 2 Battalions, with 3 full Companies of the Beyton Rifles will be ample for the duties required of them - this will be a saving of £. 8570. 7 per

annum.

The Medical Department appears capable of being reduced by one Deputy Inspector General of Hospitals, and two Staff Assistant Surgeons, give a further saving of £1570. 15 per

annum.

The Ordnance and Commissariat when contrasted with the small numerical force, here, seem to me to be

unnecessarily extensive, but not being

sufficiently conversant with the duties of these Departments, I am unable to offer

any satisfactory suggestions relative to their reduction, but I presume that they are susceptible of a corresponding

reduction suitable to that which I now propose should be made in the Force.

The services of a Fort Adjutant

may

be deemed unnecessary, as I presume

the Major of Brigade will be fully equal to take the duties at present appertaining

to the office of Fort Adjutant,

in addition to his

own.

9.

This would cause a

saving of £. 122. 14 per

annum.

I should have recommended

that this Garrison Command

be considered as a Colonel or Lieutenant Colonel, and for a Colonel or

Colonel of the Battalion stationed here.
