I have the honor to acknowledge
Your Lordship's Despatch No. 3, Military, of the 7th October last, and to inform you that being desirous in the first instance to obtain the views of Major General Staveley with regard to the reduction which might be effected in the military force of this island, I caused a communication to be made to that officer on the subject, and a copy of his reply is herewith forwarded.
