Lord,

2557 Mary Mey

Victoria, Houghong,

10th January, 1849.-

I have the hour to report for your Lordship's information that Six men serving in the Houghong Police Force, into which they had volunteered from the 48th Regiments in April 1845, having applied for a free passage for themselves and Families to proceed to Madras, on account of their being married to native women of that Country, I acceded to their request, considering myself authorized to do so by your Lordship's Despatch No. 12 of the 22th March 2, 1848.

The actual cost required to provide passage for these people amounts to £205, which I have sanctioned to be disbursed from the Colonial.

The Right Honorable, The Earl Grey,

etc.
