A Palestine official message states:We resumed operations. to the east of the Jordan on May ist. While the infantry attacked the enemy at the foot of the hills south-west and south of Essalt, Austra lian mounted troops entered the village taking thirty-three Germans and 37 kish prisoners. During these operations a mounted brigade, which watched the crossings of the Jordan at Jiseddamel, was attacked and forced back by superior enemy who crossed the river dur- ing the night. LONDON, May 2nd Tha Peces Bureau announces-The Viceroy oponed the Delhi Conference on April 27th, it being attended by 16 princes, the non-official Legislative Coun- cillors and about 100 presentatives of all shades of opinion from all the pro vinces. The Home Rule group protested against the non-inclusion of Mrs. Besant

The Conference approved of the continuanes of voluntary recruitment and the formation of Publicity and Employ nient Burgaux, and also recommended that measures be taken to encourage the consumption of local products, the develop ment of shipbuilding and the production of foodstuffe und other war requirements. The Conference showed a large measure of appreciation of the situation and a desire to furnish further assistance to the Em.
