to receive half Salary from the time of leaving Hong Kong
As the state of health after having passed four summers in that Colony renders it advisable that I should forthwith return to England,
I am anxious to learn from His Lordship whether, taking into consideration the fact that before returning to Hong Kong I shall have been put to an expense of £600 (to say nothing of additional family expenses)
a somewhat more liberal scale of allowance may not be extended to me, and that I may be permitted to receive full salary for six months irrespectively of any return to Hong Kong, leaving half salary to date from the expiration of that period.
There is another subject to which I am desirous of calling His Lordship's attention, and upon which I had occasion to address His Lordship while in Hong Kong. I allude to the "Vacation
