HOW SIAM DECLARED WAR THE COMPLETENESS OF THE PREPARATIONS. following description of the circumstances surrounding Slam's claration of war against Germany and, Austria Hungary is taken from the Bangkok Times on July 22nd and 23rd.
The arrangements that had to be made were many and intricate and involved huge amount of preparation, but the actual declaration was accompanied by a swiftness of action which led to the com- munities affected being interned in a very few hours and, entirely without incident.

Before that hour outside every German residence and firm there were cars waiting and officers and mon guarding the different places. In the case of the more import ant plners, like Windsor's and Markwald's and the German Club, they were sur rounded.
MANY AŬLEEP...
Quietly enemy anhjoets were called, the majority of them were asleep, and an officer acquainted them with the terms of the Royal Proclamation announcing that Bium was at war with both Germany and. Austria-Hungary. A German translation was also handed each alien enemy. The subject for arrest and the officers then proceeded by motor car, to the place chosen by the authorities for their deten- tion. In the case of those living near at hand carriages were used, and where several enemy subjects were being con- veyed long distances, ns, for instance, from the Maksasun railway works, lorries were used. Only men were taken by the autho rities.
HOW IT WAS DONE.
In Bangkok a list of the houses occupied by Gernians and Anstro Hungarians was prepared with great accuracy, and the exact number of residents ascertained. For each place a party of police was told off, the number varying with the number. of residents. The troops were in attend- ance in case of need, but as a matter of fact their services were not required.
