While the express train from Kowloon was approaching Canton on the 6th inst, a passenger lost $1,400 in Hongkong notes and found that the pocket in which the notes had been placed was torn. The Railway police searched the passengers in the train and found that one who was sitting next to the complainant bad Hongkong notes in his pocket to the value of over $2,000. The police, there- fare, nocused him of the theft, but tho passenger produced his account books and said that he had just returned from collecting debts at Suckling. Then the police feand that the amount written in the books corresponded with the money in his pocket, No arrest has been made. OPIIM, DENS IN CANTON,
