My Lords, adverting to the completion of most of the Works of importance for the execution of which it had been requisite for the Civil Government to provide, and to the sufficiency of the Surveyor General's Department for the Supervision of them, I would suggest that the further employment of the Officers of Royal Engineers in this Branch of the Colonial Service may be dispensed with proposed by Sir J. Davis.
