be able to make such arrangements as will afford an opportunity for the employment of Mr Johnston in a situation the duties of which are compatible with the present state of his health. It is - If no such employment should be found for Mr Johnston by the expiration of the two years, their Lordships will be prepared to give their best consideration to his claim for the continuance of an allowance till he can again be restored to active employment in the Service.

Their Lordships have derived satisfaction from learning from the concluding paragraph of his letter to Messrs Davis & Despatchen A/Viscount Palmerston dated 13 Aug last, that where Mr Johnston's retirement from the situation of Secretary & Registrar
