The value of the exports and imports of those countries before the war was nearly one thousand millione sterling, and of this total Great Britain's share was £210,000,000, If this share is to be retained and increased we cannot afford to neglect any opportunity of equipping ourselves for the "long and fiercely waged commercial war" which will follow immediately on the censa- tion of hostilities." In this connection I would be glad if you would inform me what has been done by the higher authorities in regard to the refusal of the license to the Grand Hotel. It appears to me that the rato-payers should have a say in this matter and that their wishes should have been con suited by taking their votes as to whether or not the licence should be granted, since the Board's decision from time to timo is of no avail.
