recommendations:-

6. The kitchen between Jails B and C to be converted into a Board wash-house or store-room of Trade. E17

7. As a kitchen, it is too small and most inconveniently placed, being against the wall of Jail D.

At the south end of each verandah of both floors a space to be divided off and converted into privies and wash houses, to be supplied with water and soil pipes as in Jail D. The same to be used as wash-houses also.

8. The Lower panels of all the doors to be taken out and strong iron bars substituted as before recommended with steeiling panel.

9. Each cell to be provided with a leaden or wooden utensil lined with lead for the use of the prisoners on arrival. The same to be cleansed after prisoners are allowed access to the privies, which ought to be twice at least in the course of the day.

The Board found this building in the occupation of prisoners who were waiting their trial for felony and misdemeanors. The cells are not provided with conveniences or water. The cells on the ground floor having been built for the solitary confinement of prisoners are not adapted for more than one or two prisoners. They at present contain a greater number than they were intended to do; the consequence is that the ventilation is insufficient. The following additions and improvements are recommended by the Board, viz :-
