multitude, the dirt on their persons and clothing (which cannot be remedied at present from the scarcity of water on the premises) added to the exhalations from the wooden tubs and Corners in the rooms render them very offensive, and in the hot weather which is fast approaching will probably be sufficient to cause a pestilence.

To remedy these evils the Board recommend the following additions and improvements.

1. A space to be partitioned off in one of the Corners of each large room to be converted into privies with a range of three seats each to be connected by means of pipes with the leading drain of the privies on the outside of the prison. The floors to be overlaid with lead and made water tight.

2. A cistern to be placed in the roof to supply water to carry off the soil from each set of privies.

3. The privies to be so constructed as to admit of their being used as Wash houses. This can be done with little or no expense by making the floor water proof and providing the cistern pipe with a cock from which the water for washing may be obtained.

11. Two apertures to be made in the north partition wall on both floors to correspond with those rooms; on the opposite end of the same to be provided with strong iron bars to be inserted in the walls and securely fastened.

5. The lower panels of each door to be removed, and strong iron bars substituted under current of air so that the feet air may be carried off. Each door to be provided with a sliding panel to be closed in the cold weather if required.

The Board found this Building equally destitute of conveniences and water. They make the following
