PROSPECTS.
OPENING OF THE SEASON TO DAY.
The Hongkong cricket season com mences to-day, when the Hongkong CC, oppose the United Services on the former's ground. Speaking generally, on account of the war, the season's prospects are about the same as last year, there will be no league matches, interport. encounters are completely out of the ques- tion, and the cricket to be played wil be connded to triendly matches, between the tungkung CC, Kowloon, United Kérvicus, University, Civil Service, and, possibly a GA team. There should be a fuar amount of good cricket, and som een contests may be safely antei- pated between the Club, United Services and Kowloon.."

Last season the fact that several players had proceeded to the front resulted in a general weakening, and this season the absentees will inclu Anderson, A. L. Gace, Hewitt, jvnit- marsh, Nayer, E. E. B. Reed, Ligh Bennett, and Raworth, while Brand s also a doubtful starter un account of the attractions of golf. Anderson and Reed did most of the bowling last year, while Brand did well with both bat and bill, so the Club will be faced with the old difficulty of discovering an attack worthy, of the name. Brand may be persuaded to devote his attention to cricket and, should he decide to do so, he will con- siderably assist the bowling strength of the Club at a time when n bowler of his type is sorely siteded.
