Memo from the Marine Police that 2 English vessels convoying 113 Chakiang Junks "land entered the Bay from the South Coast, and were at anchor while awaiting a favourable wind.
But on the morning of the 2nd Month (March 6th) these English vessels hearing that there were Native Pirates cruising outside in readiness to attack them forthwith, louighed Anchor & went out in pursuit.
In the afternoon, as I was directing the Police to enquire what was proceeding, I heard in the direction of the Bay, the report of a brisk cannonade, & some houses belonging to the Common People were struck by shot.
I immediately went accompanied by the Military to the Bay, to enquire into what was taking place, & I was informed by the people there that the English having seized a fishing boat belonging to the Bay, the crew jumped into a small boat & came on land, that the English followed them with drawn swords, that the fishermen of the Bay went out to assist them, the English fired upon & broadside from their vessels.
