THE rent report of the Commissioner for Customs on the trade of Shanghai gives some interesting details about British shipping in the Far East, Mr. F. S. Inwis, who has evidently spared no labour in the collection of facts con- cerning trade, mentions that during 1915 the decrease in British shipping on the China Coast was a million tons, or about the same tonnage as that of the entire Far Eastern mercantile fleet of the Geriaans, which has been swept off the high seas.
