APPLICATION IN SUPREME COURT.

At the Supreme Court yesterday, Mr EH. Sharp, K.C. (instructed by Mr. W. E. L. Shenton), appeared on behalf of the Canton Insurance Office, Ltd., in an application that the alteration of the Company's objects proposed to be effected by special resolutions set forth in the Petition might be confirmed.

Mr. Sharp said that the history of the Company his lordship would be already well acquainted with. It was incorporai- ed in 1881, and the accumulated capital was $2,000,000, which was divided into 10,000 shares. All the shares had been issued, and were paid up to the extent of $50 per share. In the course of the business the Company had accumulated a Reserve Fund of $3,600,000, besides its Dock,paid-up capital of $500,000 and in addi tion also 32,000,000 uncalled capital. The

In- cluded in this debit is this company's pro- portion of the further contributions made by the shareholders as on former ucca sions. (Cheers.}
