and at a subsequent period, when no longer capable of serving be entitled to superannuation agreeably to the scale laid down and promulgated by the Lords of Her Majesty's Treasury The contemplated abolition of my office, however, unfortunately precludes the possibility of my enjoying the benefit I had fondly anticipated: from this source, and I therefore most respectfully but earnestly submit, that Her Majesty's Government may see fit to of providing for myself and family
by a Grant of Land (I should hope not less than One thousand acres) in New Zealand, which I would most gratefully receive as an equivalent for my services and as a set off against any Claim I might be considered to have upon the Superannuation Fund.
It may not be out of place to mention; that it is understood to be an object with Her Majesty's Ministers to encourage the settlement of respectable and loyal subjects in New Colonies and I conscientiously vouch that not only those immediately dependent upon me but likewise many of my own, Wife's own, and numerous relatives would emigrate and settle beside me, immediately upon ascertaining that I had been enabled to do so.
I am aware that at times it is found difficult in New Settlements to procure parties properly qualified to act in the Commission of the Peace and having for a considerable period acted in this capacity here, it would be a source of much satisfaction to me, were I permitted an opportunity of making myself useful, in this respect, in the District in which I might create myself.
