GAINED.

PARIS, April 4th, 12.15 a.m.

A semi-official communiqué states that the Germans are attacking simultaneously at different points in the hope of splitting our Reserves, but French eminter-attacks mullified all the enemy's recent gains. It is curious to consider the German forma tions the first of which, composed of in- ferior troops, advanced shoulder-to- ferior shoulder and were consumed by machine gun fire, These were followed by better material for which it was hoped to open a way, with a cynical disregard of life when contrasted with the French methods. The enemy's lostra were never more cruel that in the recent fighting, yet they achieved nothing.
