A Gentleman in the
capacity of Mr. Cleverly is however requisite for the purpose
of repairing the Public Buildings that are in existence, and for
the maintenance and repairs of the Roads, Streets, and Bridges, as well as for the planning
and
construction of others that may from time to time become necessary. To this Gentleman also I propose entrusting the collection of the Land Revenue, should the office of Colonial Treasurer be abolished. I
therefore, with great respect, suggest that Mr. Cleverly be

in his present Office.
The Registrar-General's
Office may be abolished, and its duties transferred to the
Chief Magistrate's Office at
an expense of £300 per annum, instead of
£850 as at present; but in this case, Mr. English may be thrown out of employ. He has been 9 years
and 9 months in Government Service; is a Superannuation Contributor to the Superannuation Fund, speaks the Chinese language, and is, in fact, a valuable Officer.
Colonial Surgeon.

The Colonial Surgeon at present receives £600 per
annum. His duties might possibly be
