Clerk of the Course, Mr. T. F. Hough,
From the point of view of real racing the race for the Derby was not à race at all. Everyone present seemed to have money on Winsomes Dahlia, which, accompanied by Windsor Dahlia, took the lead at the start, gradually increased it as the racs progress- ed, and won so easily that that fact was the only surprise in the race. Windsor Dahlia cantered up a few lengths behind, As the last moment quite a lot of people rushed to place monty on Pingwu Chief, but Mr. Kadoorie's luck was still out.
The weather looked so threatening in the morning that the attendance before Win was very amal] for a Derby Day. However, the outlook was more inviting in the after Boon, and all the stands and enclosures were well-filled. H.E: the Governor and party were again present, and Sir Paul Chater was also able to witness his pony carry off chief honours.
Apart from the Derby, the racing was interesting, and it was possible at times,
the remainder of the fold until be passed the ost many lengths abend. There was a ding dong contest between the rest of the ponies first one and then another getting second position. In the home straight Antony, Freddie and Gretna Green came along in a ine, At the mile post Antony had shot his bolt, but there was a magnificent duel be tween Johnstone's mount and Freddie. The etter was beaten by a neck.
