in reply beg most respectfully to decline refunding to Mr. Morison any part of salary paid to me
for my professional services while performing the duty of Colonial Surgeon from the death of Dr. Dill until the arrival of his successor.
And further, I think it very hard
that I should be called upon to do so, for
the following
reasons:
First. When the vacancy took place by the
death of Dr. Dill, I did not apply for the
appointment, but was sent for by

Colonial Secretary,
etc.
