of £5,000 on account of Expenditure carried on in the past year, and I apprehend that in the ordinary course of the Service you will have no difficulty in drawing from the same source for any further sum which may be requisite for carrying on the Expenditure of your Government for the purposes and within the limits specified in the Estimate which you are now informed that H.M.'s Govt. will submit to Parliament.

Licenses to 278 individuals within the Colony, as reported by my Predecessor in Despatch No. 82 of 23rd July, 1847, appearing to me unobjectionable, I have the honor to state, for Your Lordship's information, that I directed the same plan to be continued for the year 1848-49.
I trust that Your Lordship will be pleased to approve the re-adoption of this measure.
