It always is in a school that is principally manned by Chinese, They will not reflect that in thoir own interest, in the interests of the classes, and in justion to their masters they ought to attend regularly. hope you will try to act so that this annually-recurrent criticism will dis appear from the report altogether. CHINA'S BACKWARDNESS.
In the Wsuchsi district just now it is easy to imagine oneself in the trenches. Two have gone to the Front, and we have been oliged to take away two others for work on the postal consorahip. Therefore the College has been somewhat handicapped in that direc tiod. I must try and make good the loss in the coming year. My most excellent friend and private secretary, Mr. For sonly; telle me that he himself would be willing to dorote an hour or so in the afternoon if that could be arranged, and I will have a talk with the Headmaster on the matter presently. If there are any more volunteers for unis good work shall be very glad to hear from them. The failure of the candidatos in the Junior Hongkong Local was also duc, I fear, to too rapid promotion in the classes in the School The Headmaster has told us that this will be remedied, and I hope that very serious attention will be paid to this fault. It is no use pushing a boy into a class for which he is not fully qualified.
