consider what relief should

be afforded to him.

The Vote asked for Hong Kong
last
year
was £25,000. By your
Legislative
letter of the 6th of May last,
in the contents of which
Lord Grey
concurred,
the
Lords Commissioners of the Treasury proposed that
the

Vote for
the year
should be reduced to £20,000, which was
computed to have an available sum beyond that required for Civil Establishments of £6213 for Public Works. The Governor
without expressing any
opinion as to the
solicitude
means which may
be given him for carrying
on future Works, transmits
a statement which shows that he
will at all events be in
arrear to the extent of about £4450 by the 31st March 1849
and
requests
that he
may
be
allowed the whole difference
between
