We all know, from the returns before the war, af that the trade of Great Britain was, in a healthier condition than that of Germany, but it is well to be reminded of the fact We must beware of accepting the state ments made by our enemies before the war as gospel truth. The American articles have been replaced by Japanese goods. British goods have been handicapped by the same disadvantage as the American

of Chiness have recently been giving this trade serious attention. The satisfactory results attending these efforts are to be seen in the returns for the years 1913 and 1914, which show an increase in imports of British plain cotton piece goods alone of 47,740 pieces, Important details on the cotton piece-goods trade of Manchuria and proposed plan by which American cotton manufacturers and others interested should unite in forming a syndicate and establish a distributing agency in Manchuria with a view to selling direct and not through Shanghai as formerly, were given in Coa- fidential Bulletin No, 20, March 10th 1915, issued by the Buzenu of Foreign and Domestic Commerce.
