supposition that as the land is at present

useless, such expenses as I may

incur in clearing

and

levelling it, with be

reimbursed to me, should His Excellency hereafter

find occasion to resume the land.

In reply to the concluding part

of your letter, informing

me that His Excellency

the Government

of Her Majesty's

will be happy to submit for favourable consideration any offer of additional rent for the land

in question, should I prefer making. I beg respectfully to state that,

the ground is at present utterly useless, owing to it's being covered with large masses of rock, the clearing and levelling of which will cost about £50., and that even when all this is completed, the peculiar

shape of the ground, (being

a narrow slip

a few feet in breadth), must prevent it's being of much use to any one, and to myself only for planting trees as ornaments,

I find it difficult to name any sum as indicative of a real value, for rent, but in order to complete a better, I should be happy to pay at the rate of

at the rate of £5 (Five)

per acre.

Victoria,

I have, &c.
