to me

His Excellency, directs me to return your the petition to the Right Honorable The Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury, and to express his regret at having detained it so long, but it was not until Mr. Hyland's arrival by the last Mail, that he could ascertain the precise merits of the question

I am further directed to inform you that the £100 penalty awarded against you in the Supreme Court, and paid by you by cheque on the Oriental Bank, has not been paid into the Government Treasury, but as the Post Office of this Colony is immediately and directly under the control of Her Majesty's Post Master General, it is probable that the money may by this time have been paid to the Post Master of the Colony, at whose instance it would appear the Prosecution was commenced.

The cheque referred to in your letter of the 25th August, is herewith returned
