DEATH AND FUNERAL OF MR. CORRESPONDENCE.

AN OLD AND RESPECTED INHABITANT.
The death took place at the Pook Hos- pital early yesterday morning of Mr. George Arthur Caldwell, Secretary of the Hongkong and Whampoa Dock Company, at the age of 55 years. About twenty years ago the deceased fell from a veran dah, and, though medically attended at intervals, he never really recovered, and was more or less nu invalid from that time. He has been in hospital frequently with heart trouble and general exhaustion, Bh on Sunday he was again taken to heart hospital suffering from a attack and in a state of general collapse, from which he never recivered, death taking place at about 5 am. yesterday:

Though obviously suffering in health, Mr: Caldwell was a surprisingly active man, and was attending to office duties. until a few days before his death, which sad event will be regretted by a very large circle af friends th in the Hongkong and Whampoa Docks and the Colony generally.
The late Mr. Caldwell's connection with the Duck Company extended over a perind of nearly 32 years. He was born in the Colony and entered the service of the Company as an assistant in the office. eventually attaining the position of just Secretary about three years ago, a reward for long and faithful service,
