Your Lordship will observe that the Commodore's first letter is dated the 3rd Instant, and it is satisfactory to me to state, that since that time I have not received any report that the protection afforded has proved inadequate.

Under these circumstances, I trust that Your Lordship will be pleased to approve of the determination to which I have come, of not complying with the Commodore's request, as it would have entailed unnecessary expenditure on the Civil Government.
