It is with much regret that

I have to inform Your Lordships that this

Colony has been visited with

a severe typhoon

on the night of the 31st ultimo, and morning

of the 1st Instant, by which very considerable damage has been sustained by the shipping, Chinese craft, and buildings both public and private; and I grieve to add, it has been attended

with great loss of life.

I have directed the Surveyor

General to furnish me with a Report showing the damage sustained by the Government Buildings and Property, which will be forwarded hereafter.
