The Yangtaze demand for plain staples has been adversely affected by the increasing FRENCH LESSONS prices required by the indigo dyer, whore charges lave risen sixty per cent, since the beginning of the war, each rise, and more especially one which has recently been demanded, being strenuously combatted by the section of the trade interested. This has had particular effect on 12-Us. 36 in. English. Sheetings, all of which are imported to be dyet, but the effect is also felt throughout a vide class of plain staples which, in spite of the small stocks stated to be on hand throughout the interior, are in but dull request. It is reported that in Antwai, Chekiang and Kwangtung Provinces, more especially in the first named, the cultivation of indigo is being actively revived this senson, and that already a large amount of ground is growing the plant.
