CHINESE GENDARMERY.

INVITATION TO A SWEDISH OFFICER

Stockholm correspondent, publishes a The Svenska Dagblad, states Router's letter from a Swedish officer serving in Persia, Major Klingberg, in the course of which the writer, after oxplaining the circumstances leading to the withdrawal from Persia of the Swedish officers of gendarnery, says:

We are to leave Persia in a short time. The Persian Government, however, will not hear of our definitively giving up our work, but gives us six months leave, in the hope that the situation will then be better. In the meantime, within the last few days, a new offer has been addressed to us, which is a great honour to the work done here by Sweden, General, Hjalmer- son has been asked by a telegram from the Chinese Government if the Swedes would undertako to reorganise the gendarmery in China, Very good conditions were offered General Hjalmarson would be sent £100 to pay for his journey to Peking, to study the conditions there more closely,

If the Swedish Government will give him leave. General Hjalmarson, when he leaves. here, will make a break in his journey, and will visit Chita on his way home,
