CLUE DEFEAT POLICE.
HANCOCK'S HITTING.
The Club were far too good for the Police in the game which was played on the Club ground on Saturday Batting | first, “Robert " made but 101, the bowling. of Pearce being the main cause of the poor showing. With half the team still to hat the Club passed this total. Sutton batted well for his to, but the feature of the Club's innings was the hitting display of Hancock. De went in when the ganie was wou, and opened his shoulders at once, soven successive hits producing 30 runs. | He cured his 04 in twenty minutes, and was out 10. a remarkably good catch, Alexander taking the ball high when on the run near the pavilion. ALICE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL.
The Hon. Treasurer of the Alice Memorial and Aliated Hospitals begs to acknowledge with thanks the following donations:-
The Navy suffered their first reverse in the U.S. League on Saturday, when the 20R.G.A. had the pleasure of avenging their recent defeat and defeating the Navy by the only goal scored. There was some really good football at times, but the Navy forwards failed to reprodues the splendid form they have been showing of late. Their combination was completely of money. A week's remand was granted broken up by the Artillerymen's inter- mediate line, behind which were a cap able pair of backs. The Artillery obtain ed their point early in the game. Svan worked his way almost to the corner flag, and centred beautifully, the leather being prettily headed through by Robins. Soon afterwards Watson hit the post with a drive that had completely beaten the Navy custodian, but the ball was kicked out of danger by Fennimore, whose clean and clever work was one of the features of the game. The soldiers' front rank showed a good understanding, and had their shoot ing approached the excellence of their passing the score would most probably have been greater. In the second balf the Navy forwards improved somewhat, but their final efforts were deplorable. Palmer alonic came near, equalising, a shot from this hard working forward missing the mark by a foot. Mr. F. W. Eager admir ably controlled the game.
