Aug 24 61 The Police Reports that State of the Troops in consequence of the Sickly state of the Troops, they are unable to supply the ordinary Guards and he has been obliged to increase the strength of the Police Force as a temporary measure, which will cause an expense of £57.50 per Month

Encloses further correspondence relative to the claim of Mr AR Johnston for a Lease of the ground on which he was allowed to build his House, and contains the clauses and conditions on which it is usual to grant Leases by the Government.

Represents the extreme difficulty attending the question of Ground Rents and the reduction of such as are unquestionably too high. Considers the best plan would be to extend the period of these Leases much beyond the usual length of 75 Years.

Aug 26 65 Mr W Napier : Refers to Governor's Despatch 415 Jan 7 25. Encloses an application from Mr W Napier for the expenses of his journey out overland. Recommends it in consequence of Mr Strachan having drawn the full Salary. Refers to Governor's Despatch 8825 Feb 12.
