I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 30th instant, with its several enclosures, and to inform you by direction of the Honorable the Lieutenant-Governor, that, as a temporary measure, Mr. Gutzlaff will translate all the Chinese documents required for the duties of the Supreme Court, which he trusts will obviate any inconveniences which might have been otherwise occasioned; and on the return of His Excellency the Governor to the Colony, the correspondence forwarded by you yesterday will be submitted to His Excellency.
