Copy of a letter from the Registrar to the Honorable the Chief Justice

I have the honor to enclose a copy of a letter I received from Mr. Hillier the Acting Magistrate, of yesterday's date, in which he objects to Schick the Interpreter of the Police being employed to translate papers connected with the business of the Supreme Court.
On receipt of Mr. Hillier's letter, I sent sixteen of the informations to be tried at the ensuing Criminal Sessions, to Mr. Caldwell, calling upon him as Chinese Interpreter of the Supreme Court to get them translated, and Chinese copies made, for service on the Chinese prisoners.
I have this moment received a reply from Mr. Caldwell, stating that from his ignorance of the Chinese character, he is incompetent to make the copies required, and that the amount
