THE KING AT THE FRONT.

HISTORIC ROYAL VISIT.-

ENTHUSIASM OF THE TROOPS.

Full details of the King's visit to the front are published in a long and vivid account by Eye-witness,"

The programme for the King's visit (saysEye-Witness") included a tour round the army corps, comprising a call al the headquarters of the different corps, a meeting with the divisional gonerals and brigadiers, at which their respective staff had the honour of heing presented, and an inspection of all the troops not actually in the trenches, who were paraded to greet his Majesty.

The form of those parades and the pro cedure followed was much the same in nearly every case. The units wore formed up along the road, either on one or both eides, and after they had saluted and the King had reached the end of the line of each squadron, battery or company the officers and men gave three cheers.

Not only, howover, were there parades of large masses of troops at places where they could be collected, but all along the roule, in villages or clusters of houses, isolated buildings, wherever a few men were billeted, at cross roads, alongside convoys of motor lorries which had drawn to one side of the road, were longer or shorter lines of soldiers of every descrip tion standing in the mud and the rain waiting for the Royal cortege to pass.

And the heartiness with which all and sundry cheored the King as be passed by in his motor car and the smiling faces of the men as they saw him and the Prince of Wales approach wore proof of the feelings aroused.
