My Lord,

1848.
In continuation of my Despatch
No 60 of the 22th Instant, I have the honor to enclose a further letter from the Major General Commanding, giving a communication from Lieutenant Colonel Phillpotts, the Commanding Royal Engineer, recommending that the Colonial Government should retain its right to the ground on which Mr. Johnston has built his house, until the Ordnance is prepared to cut it down in order to enlarge the Parade;
To this proposal I confess I am not disposed to assent. I cannot recommend the Colonial Government to pay for the removal of the Military Guard from the Naval Stores at West Point between Governor Bonham's and Commodore Humridge's.
The Right Honorable,
The Earl Grey,
