being withdrawn, but as the lyward or the Treasury had been removed, and the Major General had expressed his inability to supply this Guard, I acquiesced in the propriety of its withdrawal, and I now enclose for Your Lordship's information, copies of any correspondence on the subject,
as it is not improbable the Commodore may consider it his duty to represent the matter to the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty. I may add that Her Majesty's ship Cambrian, the Commodore's pendant ship is anchored within half a mile of the Naval Stores, so that should he consider the Civil Guard insufficient for safe custody of the Stores, he has the means of increasing it to any extent he sees fit.
The Military Guards will be restored to the Civil Department so soon as the state of the Garrison will permit, and the extra Police Force be dispensed with.
I have the honour to be,
With the highest respect,
Your Lordship's,
Most Obedient,
Humble Servant.
