BENEFITS OF CONFUCIANISM.
The Benefits to the World of the Practice of Confucianism was. the subject of a lecture delivered by Mr. Wang Chen- nin at Shanghai.
The Icturer pointed out the antiquity of Confucianism, and the fact that it was the foundation of China's morality and that the history of China was practically the history of Confucianism. Christianity. he said, is a development of Judaism and has passed through niany transformations, but Confucianism was the transmission to posterity of the original religious ideas. of China, and is the warp and woof of Chinese civilisation. This is recognised by all nations, The chief interest of chief object of government, according to Confucianism is government, and the Confucianism, is the care of the people. In ancient times when mankind was not yet civilized certain senii-divine men taught the race agriculture and showed how, by developing the natural resources of the earth, there could easily be sufficient food for all. However, in the course of time, the ancient instructions were for- gotten and in the days of Confucius there was much disturbance and unrest.
