From Cochin China has hitherto made her appearance.
Though the trade to this settlement is not such as to occupy attention in a statistical point of view, still, there is much doing amongst the Chinese themselves, and there are a great many interests at stake.
Disputes and accusations have under such circumstances been frequent, and often come to notice. As, however, my many cases had to be decided by the Supreme Court, they dropped, because the litigants could not wait the time until the case could be brought on, and criminals and cheats have thus often escaped with impunity, because the plaintiff's and witnesses were absent, and could not wait for the trial.
