profitably worked by the company itself. While the hydraulic installation again. worked satisfactorily during the year, operations on the company's account were much hampered by the want of an. adequate and regular water-supply. The deficiency of water power was especially felt during the past year, owing to the occurrence of a prolonged drought and to the scheme of oporations necessitating the cutting away of the lower honch of ground involving elevation by a jet elevator, which absorbed half the avail. able water-supply. As a consequence, the amount of ground treated during 1913 shows a decrease compared with the previous year, viz, 6.2, as compared with 10.0 acres, but this area treated shows a net profit of £1,191 156. per more. A has already been stated, the pressing neces- sity for obtaining an additional water supply has been before the directors for a considerable period, and they are glad to intimate that, as a result of protracted negotiations, rights over water from the Keja stream have boon obtained In order to properly utilise this new source of supply, considerable additions to the. present, installation are necessary, and the directors have received from the mine managers details and estimates for this work. This, including the erection of a storage dam, will entail the expenditure of a considerable sum of money.
