The Government has already remitted. to Wang Ching-fang, Director of the bank of Kwangtung, for rederoption of Canton notes the sum of 87,000,000. This is derived from two suna, 3,800,000 and $3,000,000, which ara surplus from ealt revenue after the Quintuple Banks had retained 240,11 911,000,000, which is sufficient to cover the liabilities secured on salt until the end 8101,180,20 of June, 1915. The Government has made the balance of $200,000.

THE QUINTUPLE ADVANCE. With regard to the expenditure of the $10,000,000 advanced by the Quintuple Banks out of the Reorganization loan, Reater's Peking correspondent further understands that the foreign sucitors who will supervise the redemption of the notes will probably be Mr. Arnhold, of the Deutsch-Asiatische Bank and Mr. McEuen, of the Bank of China. Thus $17,000,000 will be devoted in the mar future to the redemption of Canton notes.

Both Chinese and foreign circles in Peking consider this highly satisfactory. 7,046.02 Members of the Government point out that it will mean a considerable increaeo in the actual sait revenue, for which at 404,114.68 present $350,000 in notes is being received every mouth, the value of which ia considerably below par

The Chinese correspondent in Peking of the Y.-C. Daily News wrote on May, 13th Mr Wang Ching-fang ∙has: telegraphed to the Central Government to the effect that, after careful investigation of the financial condition of Kwangtung though there are superfluous. Paper notes, yet, if the exportation of small silver coins be stopped and several millions of dollars in cash are put on the market out of the £1,000,000 to be released by the Quintuple bankers, ba believes that, if his plans are successful in Kwanglang, they may be similarly introduced into all other Provinces gradually to the advantage of both foreigners and Chinese
