been granted to him
As it appears that the delay which occurred in M. Jugton's return to the Colony was entirely owing to circumstances over which he had no control, I do not hesitate to sanction his receiving the half salary which was due to him for the whole of the period during which he was absent.

My Lord,
RECEIVED OCT. 2 1848
Victoria, Hongkong. 24th July, 1848
I have the honor to enclose for Your Lordship's information the Estimate referred to in my Despatch No 25 of the 22nd May last, for the Government House
The details necessary to be entered into for this Surveyor General were so voluminous that he was unable to complete the Estimate in time for submission by the last Mail. Your Lordships will perceive that there is an excess over the Approximate Estimate amounting to £283.7.7, but as this is a comparatively trifling addition, I hope for Your Lordship's sanction for this
The Right Honorable The Earl Grey, &c. &c.
