HE true secret of getting the full enjoyment that Tach meal should give, is to break yourself of
the habit of saying "Worcestershire sauce," and always to call for "LEA & PERRINS."
There are scores of Worcestershire sauces." There is only one Lea & Perrins. No other has ever succeeded in equalling it. If you say simply Worcestershire" you may get one of the imitations.

HUMANE SOCIETY'S MEDAL
WON AT SINGAPORE THE FIRST CHINESE RECIPIENT.
A ceremony which the Struita Limes says is certainly unique in Singapore history and probably quite as unique m the annals of that ancient body, tha Royal Humane Society, took place in the works of United Engineers, Ltd., Damar Road, last week. The occasion was the presentation of the Society's bronze medal for bravery to a Chinese fitter named: Leng Khow, who, it is locally understood, may how regard himself as the first Chinese recipient of the honour, although, it is hoped, not the last,
C
The presentation was made by H.E. the Governor, who came in uniform and was accompanied by the Lady Evelyn Young, the Hon R. J. Wilkinson, C.M.G. (Colonial Secretary), ard Lieut. Crofton, A.D.O. The party was met by the directors of the firms, Messrs. V. V. Lemberger, H R Llewellyn, P. Cunlife. and A, J. W. Watkins. There were also present on the Governor's dais, which had been erected in the yard and screened with flags, Mrs Watkins, Mr. T. C, B. Miller, Mr. W. Finney and Mr. F. A. Langley. All round the yard were assembled the hero's fellow-workmen and the European staff, all deeply interested in the proceedings. It was, from every aspect, a most notable and interesting gathering,MY CART
Mr. Lemberger introduced the hero. Leng Khow, he said, had been employed by United Engineers and their predeces sors for the past 18 years and during that period was a respectable man and an The industrious and capable worker. facts of the deed which had brought him into prominence were as follows:
THE GALLANT DEED,
United On September 12th the Engineers were changing the coke in No. 2 scrubber of the suction gas plant ja their power-house. The coke in the No 1 scrubber hat already been changed and as No. 9 had been standing empty and open for two days no danger from gas The was considered at all possible, serubber is a cylindrical iron tank 4 feet in diameter and 16 feet high. In order to put iu the new coke charge they had a serang and one lascar at the top of the scrubber lowering down the coke in hasketa to two other lascars standing at the bottom of the scrubber who were to receive the coke and stack it properly. Though the scrubber had been standing empty, with its cover removed and the bottom doo's open for two days, it is clear that it must have been full of carbon monoxide, a gas which is poisonous and, unfortun ately, invisible and odourless. After a very short then the two men at the bottom collapsed One of the men at the top either saw this and went down to their assistance or himself became affected and dropped down. bottom of the scrubber. The serang went down to try and get them up, but found himself unable to breathe and at once c'imbed out again. Thereupon the fitter, Leng Khow, who was in charge of the engine, came along, got down into the scrubber and succeeded in putting all three men, one after another into a basket which was hauled up by those who had come up on hearing what had happened. After these three men had been thus got out Leng Khow himself was hauled up. Mr. Armstrong the engineer in charge of the power station, had heard the alarm and arrived just in time to see Leng Khey going into the scrubber and, with much presence of mind, started men creating a draught of air through the scrubber by waving flat sheets of tin, or whatever they could find, in front of the bottom doora This probably enabled Leng Khow to last out until he had rescued the three men. Dr. Galloway had been seat for and arrived very promptly and at ones gave sid to the men, The serang soon revived two of the others came round in two hours, but the fourth man had to have oxygen administered for about an hour and a half. Leng Khow's heart was affected and it was necessary to walk him about for someTM time, after which Dr. Galloway ordered him ten days leave and rest in order to let his heart resume its normal condition. It seems clear that, but for Leng Khow, three men would have lost their lives and that Leng Khow saved them at imminent risk of losing his own life with full know. ledge of that danger.

Mt. Lemberger concluded by thanking his Excellency, on behalf of the directors, officials and employees, for the honour his Excellency had done them by coming. to acknowledge and recognise the brave pet of a brave raan. He then presented Leng Khow.SE
