- COAL GODOWN COLLAPSES.

HIGHWAY BLOCKED AT WANCHIAK.

THE HONGKONG DAILY PRESS, MONDAY, FEBRUARY STB, 1914.

On Saturday afternoon, between five and six o'clock. a one-storied coal godown situated between Wanchai Rond and the Fraya East suddenly collapsed.. The building fell outwards right on to the road, absolutely blocking all traffic for some considerable while. Soveral ricshos were passing along at the time, and their occupants had extremely nar row escapes from injury. Fortunately the traia-car lines were quickly cleared. The Fire Brigade were not called, coolies employed in the Public Works Depart ment being despatched with praiseworthy promptitude to the scene for the purposa of clearing the rond. A large quantity of cont was stored in the godown at the the No human beings were inside, but sonie thirty ΩΣ forty coolies were working in the building about two hours before its collapse. We under- stand that the godown belonged to the Humphreys Estate and Building Com pany.
