Ho discovered that the coolie had in fact collected $57 odd, and on asking an explanation later frous the foki, the latter: admitted drawing the money and added that he had spent it. At the Magistracy yesterday the coolie was sentenced to two months' hurd labour and four bours stocks by Mr. F. A. Hazeland.
Mr. Sharp, continuing his address, said. in reply to the President. that it was obvious from the evidence put in that all the brothers were partners in the business though they may have few at one time only employees.
The Chief Justier said subsequently that it was quite clear, from his judgment on the original action, that he did not believe a single word of the defen- dant in regard to the question of the property of the family. His testimony on that point, added his fordship. was absolutely false, and shook the veracity of his evidence as a whole.
31r. Sharp---Your Lordship. I think. made a mistake in the reading of the document. That was the real trouble.

Ir. Sharp dealt with many letters which had passed between the parties with the object of showing how the theatrical business was conducted and what part the two brothers, along with the other brothers, took in it; the letters mentioned the profits made in respoc of the different theatres, and how they were shared. Then was no evidence that any of the booke of the firm were missing, but the plaintiff and deferidant had been through them and had arrived ut different results. Ho submitted that the evidence of everybody present at the family meeting, vers important meat ing was weighty. It was also very evident that it was arranged that plain tiff should retire from partnership in the theatrical business only, but he was still head of the family properly, and it was never thought what the legal consequences might be. Mr. Hoggarth pointed out that, while he might have bought the opium from the Opiuni Farmer, it was in excess of the quantity allowed by 1 tacis. His Worship imposed a fine of 334, or a month's imprisonment.

the value of nastin. Only one report on an extensive trial of nautin has hitherto been published, namely, from the Mahaica Leper Asylum, British Guiana. Captain Scott explain that nastin is a kind of vaccine prepared from a culture of leprous virus. The source of the virus was lepers in Constantinople. The action of vaccine generally accepted as being specific. This accounts for the success of mastin in the treatment of leprosy in India, Persia and Turkey While the reports of its use in Europe vary, those from the Far East and Australia are all unfavourable, and the majority of the experiments among the African races have been failures, including those of British Guiana, Captain Scott adds if the explanation of these facts lies in the suggestion of the existency of specifically different strains of leprosy chat mooded to obtain uniform success througli the world is to prepare the nastin from the local leper in the country where it is to be used. Captain Scott draws atten- tion to the almost universal success of nestin in India. He has been careful throughout nos to make unqualified use of the word "cured" In many of the cured cases, he states, a scientific cure iu the sense of eradication of all living lepra bacilli from the system has probably not taken place but if the "cure" be taken as caning complete restoration of health, strength, and working power, with loss of all troublesome or crippling symptoms, Captain Scott claims that all the cases IN ONE BOTTLE. referred to in his report were cured.
