and is arousing a deal of excitement, especially among those most interested in the destination of the trophy. This three companies in the Command are the 83rd, 87th, and 88th, and each contains a fair proportion of the regimental players--the pick of the bunch. The cup is fought for on the league principle, each Company meeting the others twice. So far as they have gone at present 83 have beaten 88 twice, by 4-0 and 1-0, and 87-have got the better of 88 by 1-0 and 83 by 2-0. $3 (Lyemas) and 87 (Stonecutters) onch have therefore four points to their erodit, white 88 (Victoria Barracks) have a better team than either (cn paper), but not a single point. Next Wednesday, the two leaders meet at Lyomnu, and the result should practically decide the vexed ques tion of the season's superiority. Wednesday, when the sume Clubs met, the Stonecutters nion were in the happy position of playing on their own peculiar pitch at the water-side, and this fast doubtless had a lot to do with their winning by two clear goals, and whether or hot the playing at Lemur will make sufficient difference remains to be seen. Should 83 win, they will have six points,

beating 88 later on at Happy Valley- rúther a big proposition. Even then they will have to meet the Lyemun garnors on neutral ground at the Valley, so they have a long journey before them ere they can call the cup theirs. Anyway, next Wednesday's match seems to hold the key to the position, and the Royal Artillery of the garrison will be present like one man to lend their help in the cheering line.

The draw for the Hongkong Shield Competition has been made; eight teams participating. Unless current form is very unreliable, the Engineers should geenant for the Tamar with a bit to spare, and the R.G.A. should be good, enough to see that the second round does not consern the Police. Then comes the tug-of-war between the R.G.A. and R.E., which will be well worth waiting to see and which must remain a very open alair until the referee blows the final blast. I for one would not like to hazard a guess upon the probable ending of this half of the competition, but if a solection has to be made Victoria Barracks gets it:

Of the other four, the D.C.L.I. ought to find their way into round two at the expense of the Yarmouth, especially after their prolonged spell at the Government expense in eamp, but the case of the Hongkong Club and the Minotaur requires very careful handling. The representa- tives of the ship showed up finely in the recent Army and Navy match and the two teams have also met in friendlies this season at Happy Valley, the bongura going to the Naval representatives. But friendlies are seldom reliable guides to fort, and I am inclined to think it will be the civilians who will meet the Dukes in the second round, which is also the semi-final. But it is impossible to carry then further, for it requires a much bigger imagination than is warranted by cireum-1 stances to expect the Club to oust the little men, from the "Delectable Duchy.
